How often do you wake up at 11 p.m., 1 p.m., or even later sometimes, on a regular basis? I'm sure most of you would say that you wake up past 11 p.m. on weekends, but that too should not be the case. I've talked to many people who often complain about not having enough time, feeling unmotivated, or just enduring the feeling of not wanting to do anything throughout the day. Today I will be expounding on how I transformed myself physically and mentally, embarking on a journey of self-discovery. I completely understand that it's not realistic to say, "I'll follow this every day," but for most days, it's good to follow at least a few of these whenever you can. Change takes time, and there's no hurry, there's always room for improvement, and even your best self should have the ability to recognise and say this to themselves.
I would like to introduce you to the concept of the subconscious mind here. Your mind is divided into two parts: the conscious mind, which controls your brain activity and your thought processes, and the subconscious mind, which records events, produces thoughts or emotions, and controls habits, containing memory banks and emotion generators. This part of your mind is dormant, not in its state of awareness. Although both are similar in the way that they are unable to differentiate between what is real and what isn't,. This is why negative affirmations are so dangerous. When you say something negative to yourself, even if it's false, your subconscious mind over time tends to believe that. On the other hand, positive affirmations and readings come in handy as the subconscious mind registers them and then makes you want to do small things that you may not even notice, which kind of transforms you into your desired self.
Now let's get to the part where I state the habits and explain why they're crucial and beneficial for the body.
Waking up before 9am even on the weekends. Waking up any time before 9 a.m., especially on the weekends, is a crucial lifestyle change. The fact that such a time was chosen was because it's the perfect time to start your day. Neither is it "too late" or "too early." You have enough time to wake up, freshen up, take a good time to plan your day, eat breakfast, and get going! Pushing yourself to get up early should be your prime focus, as it kicks off your day! If you get tired early, take a 1-2 hour nap a few hours after lunch.
2. Doing my bed everyday
Doing your bed every day embeds the subconscious mind to say, "Oh, I have to fix it again if I sleep now." Therefore, you're likely to not sleep unless you really need to. I just feel like it also kickstarts your day by making you do something productive in a small yet effective way!
3. Walking around parks
Walking around parks or just anywhere has many benefits. It keeps your blood glucose levels on track, burns calories, and provides shape and tones up your legs. It helps keep your blood flowing, and doing so for prolonged hours is almost as good as working out! It is intertwined with nature, which makes it better because after the walk you face the "feel good" effect and your mood lightens up!
4. Doing chores
The saying goes, "Your room is a visual representative of your mind."
Romanticise doing chores by either listening to music, your favourite podcast, or even a TV show or movie while doing chores! This increases your willingness to complete chores, and you just genuinely feel fresh after realising that you've got your work done!
5. Journaling
Some people may underestimate the power of journaling, but trust me, it's one of the most powerful yet smallest things that we could do to change our lives in a day. Not only did the ability to write down my thoughts and feelings throughout the day on a piece of paper with a pen allow me to reflect on myself, it also allowed me to evaluate whatever was happening. I was more aware and present in the moment.

6. Reading/listening to affirmations
Your subconscious mind registers something when you repeatedly say, read, or listen to it. It then understands, comprehends, and slowly makes you want to do small actions that reinforce the aim that you've been trying to achieve, inhibiting you from working towards your goal, which is whatever you're listening/reading. Rihanna's statement was absolutely validated when she said, "Fake it till you make it."
7. Reading/seeing positive content
The importance of having a positive mindset. The context of consuming a positive mindset aligns with reading or influencing yourself with positive content.
8. Planning the day
Staying motivated throughout the day isn't a piece of cake. Your whole day needs to be properly planned and organized. Take around 10–15 minutes off and plan how your day will look, even if it doesn't look like it, so by the end of the day, make efforts to try and reach your goals! Your body subconsciously feels better when it realises that you've got work done and are achieving your small set targets.
9. Set routines for yourself
Routines are something that helps a lot in maintaining discipline. This would help you feel like you were productive and help you end or start your day in a systematic order.
10. DO NOT FOLLOW THE REWARD SYSTEM
The reward system is a trap. I REPEAT, the reward system is a trap. The reward system is simple: you work out, and now your mind is telling you, "Let's go and have bubble tea; we just worked out!" or "Let's grab a cheeseburger for the effort you put into studying." NO NO NO. By listening to your mind tell you this, you are automatically going back to where you were; you're gaining the calories again; even more, perhaps you're feeling how you used to; you're going to get bloated again. These factors your future more successful self is not willing to accept and therefore
11. Love yourself
Loving yourself and being narcissistic are two different things. Choosing yourself or making yourself your number one priority is not selfish, and even if some people disagree with me on this and say that "it is considered selfish," so what? In reality, the only way to be successful and achieve something is to be selfish in a world full of selfish people.
Dance alone whenever you want. Enjoy your own presence. Take yourself out on dates. Start appreciating and loving the smallest things you do and whatever life is offering you. Always be grateful for whatever you have, because when the universe and the gods realise that you appreciate whatever you have right now, they feel like giving more in the near future. If you don't learn how to love yourself, how will others learn to love you?
These small habits helped me completely transform my life, and hopefully they'll help you too!
